Sophie Olszewski

Sophie Josephine Olszewski, age 88 years, of Petersburg, MI passed away March 13, 2017 in Vibrant Life Senior Living. The daughter of Joseph and Laura (Kosakowski) Rodziewicz she was born on September 15, 1928 in Petersburg, MI.

     Sophie attended Petersburg High School graduating in 1947 as the Salutatorian. On October 23, 1948, Sophie married the love of her life Chester Olszewski in St. Alphonus Church. She worked at Monroe Bank and Trust, Koraleski Farms and Steve’s Farm Market for over 30 years. 

Sophie and Chester enjoyed traveling during the winter months in their motor home to places like Florida, Texas, Arizona and California. She loved to sew, tend to her garden, bake,  freeze and can her own garden vegetables and tend to her strawberry patch. The grandchildren loved her famous pancakes and they had to have her homemade strawberry jam on them. Sophie enjoyed hosting family gathering but most of all spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   

Sophie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Chester; children, Susan (Thomas) Keller, Kathleen (Morris) Markley, Donald (Sharon) Olszewski and Stephen (Mitzi) Olszewski; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley Rodziewicz; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Rodziewicz and 2 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI. where the funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.
