Ursula Cauffiel

Cauffiel, Ursula Irene (Zulka), 96, long-time resident of Temperance, Michigan, passed away on July 9, 2021 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ursula Irene Cauffiel was born on January 18, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to George Zulka and Tekla (Kwasek). 

She graduated from Woodward High School and soon after graduated from secretarial school in 1943. She was employed as a secretary by Willy’s Overland during the war, at the plant where the Jeep and Corsair were built.  It was there that she met her future husband Lowell Cauffiel, a young aeronautical engineer.  On January 9, 1948 Ursula married Lowell Cauffiel in a ceremony held in Bowling Green, Ohio. In 1951, 1954, and 1961 they welcomed three children, Lowell, Ursula and John respectively, who were her world.

Over the years, Ursula was by Lowell’s side as a partner and administrator to his various business pursuits; including the manufacture of a small gasoline engine, real estate development and construction, as well as industrial machinery. 

Over her life Ursula was involved with the church and the Polish community. She served as vice president, Polish American Congress (P.A.C.) Ohio chapter; supporting member, Kosciuszko Foundation; lector, St. Anthony’s Church, Bible Study, Temperance; in Toledo – life member, International Institute, supporter of Polish related events, fund raiser, St. Hedwig’s Church (board directors member, 1984-85), The Echoes of Polish Folk Song and Dance Ensemble, Toledo Opera Guild, Toledo Symphony League. She was instrumental with the sister city effort of Toledo and Poznan, Poland.

Ursula was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a friend to many and always had a kind word and advice for anyone who might need help in the community. She would help anyone in need and was known as a legend for her resolute positive thinking and devout faith. She traveled the world to tour Europe and the Holy Lands.

Ursula was predeceased by her loving husband Lowell on September 27, 1997.

Ursula is survived by her sister, Delores Sitek, age 98; her children, Lowell, Ursula (Bruce Newman), and John (Darlene); her grandchildren, Jessica, Lawrence (Kristin), John Lowell, Joanna, Betsy, Ursula (Jack Leonard), Hamilton, Isabella, Elizabeth; her great grandchildren, Lawson, Katelyn, Moxie and Luke.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI 48182. A rosary service will be prayed at 4 p.m. and eulogy services at 7 p.m. The Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, July 19, 2021 in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. in the church narthex. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A memorial luncheon will be in St. Anthony’s community center.
