Andrew Patrick-James Claussen 37 years, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025. The son of, Irvin and Kay (Ferguson) Claussen, he was born March 22, 1988 in Toledo, OH. Andrew was a sweet, kind, compassionate, gentle soul who possessed infectious good humor and enthusiasm, and the world will be an emptier place without him. Andrew is survived by his longtime partner, Cori Raymond; his father, Irvin Claussen; brothers, David (Sylvia) Claussen, Jason (Courtney) Claussen, and Aaron (Autumn) Claussen; nieces and nephews, Michelle, Adam, Pom, LeAnne, Diana, Savannah, Grayson and Emmet also mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Claussen.
Andrew was a 2007 graduate of Ida High School. He went on to study at Michigan State University, where he earned a Doctorate in Mathematics. Andrew continued to work in the field of Mathematics, as a professor and a researcher.
We will forever remember the epic road trips (which Andrew christened the “Brojourn”) that Andrew was a part of. Andrew enlivened every trip he went on with his endearing sense of humor, and his ability to make anyone laugh at anything; taking him on a trip felt like chauffeuring a ball of sunshine in your backseat.
Over the years there were so many trips taken with Andrew that gave us so many wonderful memories; trips to Gettysburg, Washington, D. C., hiking trips to the Upper Peninsula and Hocking Hills OH, trips to see the Detroit Tigers play, and brojourning with his brothers to see the Detroit Lions in Cincinnati and Indianapolis (where Dave lost his keys).
Andrew was a brilliant mathematician, and published two research papers in the field of Combinatorics. He was a gifted teacher who could break down complex mathematical ideas to concepts that his students could understand. He taught math classes at different levels, from basic calculus to high-level theory.
Andrew was also an incredibly gifted musician, composing and playing his music on guitar. He was happiest when he was in the throes of musical invention; writing, performing, or recording in person or at his home studio alongside his friends, his brothers Aaron and David, his father Irvin, and other family members. His favorite person to compose and play music with, however, was his longtime partner Cori.
Andrew’s family would like to deeply thank all of the people who have reached out and helped during this terrible time, with a heartfelt thanks to Andrew’s Aunt Marshia and Uncle Ron. Donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.
Thank you, Andrew, for all of the wonderful memories and adventures. Our worlds are so much brighter because you were in them.
Boo/Poof/Redbird, forever in our hearts.
