Barbara Biela, 87 years, of Temperance, MI passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 in St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Toledo, OH surrounded by her family. The daughter of Maximilian and Angeline (Sniadecki) Lawniczak, she was born August 11, 1936 in Toledo. After graduating from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in 1957 as a Registered Nurse, she married Steve D. Biela July 26, 1958 in St. Ann Catholic Church, Toledo. She retired from St. Vincent’s in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Norman Lawniczak, Sue (Harold) Hedges, Marcia (Dutch) Good; and brother-in-law, Dave Morrison. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Steve; children, Steve (Suzette) Biela, Diane Biela; siblings, Connie Morrison, Mike (Linda) Lawniczak, John (Carla) Lawniczak, Mary (Terry) Murphy, Paul (Debbie) Lawniczak, Bill (April) Lawniczak, Joe (Pattie) Lawniczak; grandchildren, Ashley (Rob) Long, Steven Biela, Max Porter, Isabelle Porter; and great-grandchildren, Adrianna and Dominic Anthony.
Barbara loved to crochet and made many afghans for the homeless veterans. She enjoyed playing the guitar and piano, traveling, gardening, and attending bunco parties. She was a member of the Echoes of Poland and took several trips to Poland with the group. She always liked going on casino trips with her siblings, going to luncheons with her sisters, her St. Ann’s classmates and a group of retired nurses from St. Vincent’s. She was always available to prepare funeral luncheon dishes for the church and volunteered as a welfare officer for the Catholic War Vets Post 1675 Ladies Auxiliary. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI. The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church 8330 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where visiting will begin after 10:00 a.m. in the narthex. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
