Bernadine Josephine (Simon) Nusbaum was born January 2, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio; and after a long and gratifying life passed away January 10, 2022, at home in Lambertville, Michigan.
The daughter of Nicholas Simon and Julia VanCoppenolle, she married Bernard James Nusbaum February 18, 1947, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ida, Michigan.
Bernadine was a devoted wife of over 60 years and loving mother to ten children and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Among her many life achievements is the successful completion of her high school graduation requirements from Bedford High School in 1978.
She will be remembered fondly for her kind and generous acts to help other people. An active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Temperance, Michigan, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening, volunteering in the community and participation in organizations including Christian Mothers, Bedford Herbal Group and Bedford Senior Center.
She is survived by her children, Linda (David Packer) Nusbaum, Mary Sherman, Carol (Ajit Raj) Kanneman, Angela Hammersmith, Timothy (Jacqueline) Nusbaum, Helen (Roberto, Jr.) Mendez, Joseph (Catharina) Nusbaum, Lisa Nusbaum; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Simon, and Janice Simon.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband and siblings Eustelle (Marion) Snyder, Irene (Alfred) Kehrer, Harold Simon, Mainord (Barabara) Simon, Cletus Simon, Bernard Simon, James (Jeannette) Simon; daughter, Julia Roberts; son, Martin Nusbaum; grandson, Patrick Nusbaum and sons-in-law Robert Vyse, Jefferson Scout, Rodney Roberts, Reverend Gary Sherman and James Kanneman.
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Temperance, MI where she will lie in state in the narthex at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI.
