Donald E. Nofziger, 77 years, of Temperance, MI and lifelong resident of Bedford, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015 in The Toledo Hospital.
A quality control inspector for GM Powertrain, he retired in 1991 after 34 years. The son of Donald L. and Mary (Sotka) Nofziger he was born April 5, 1938 in Toledo, OH. Donald graduated in 1956 from Bedford High School and served as a Tech Sgt. E-4 in the US Army during the Vietnam War Era qualifying as a sharpshooter. May 27, 1961 he married Alma Swisher in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.
Don enjoyed playing softball for many years; the majority being with the UAW Local #14. He also umpired high school softball and refereed high school basketball and volleyball. All summer long, Don played his old time radio in the garage so he could listen to Detroit Tigers baseball. He loved to garden and be outdoors as well. A member of the New Life Tabernacle since 1980, he also served as a Deacon.
A loving husband, proud father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Alma; son, Glen (Michelle) Nofziger; daughters, Celeste (Christopher) Kloka, Bonita (James) Chapetta; grandchildren, Chad, Jeremy, and Zachery Nofziger, Sydney Chapetta; and brother, John Nofziger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barbara Wallace and brother, James Nofziger.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI where the Service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m., officiated by the Associate Pastor, Oke Maertin from New Life Tabernacle. Entombment will be private.
