Frances Marlene Woodson, was born in Leavenworth, KS on May 31, 1933 to parents, Richard and Ruth (Pierce) Leintz. She passed away at the age of 89 on Thursday, May 11, 2023 in The Toledo Hospital, Toledo, OH.
She met David Warren Woodson in high school and they married on August 30, 1952, becoming his wife. We will always remember a story she told to us about her and David at a dance in their early years of marriage. She saw Dave dancing with another woman so Frances caught a ride home and left him there. She set the tone there and well they apparently made up because they were married 71 years and had 5 kids, Dave, Steve, Sue, Dana and finally Scott who is now wearing a second hat as a “Mom”. Throughout Frances’ life she was able to see 11 grandchildren grow into adulthood and give her 11 great-grandchildren.
While living in Leavenworth, Frances worked as a librarian for years until they moved to Temperance, MI in 1970 where they still remain in the same house today. From that point on she became a bus aid for disabled children. She thoroughly enjoyed this position with the schools for 25 years or so before retiring. Frances was one of the good ones indeed. Glue of our family. She was the family cook. Family housekeeper. Family medic. Family mediator. Family taxi driver. You name it, she did it. As you can see, Frances wore many hats in her lifetime with no regrets.
No matter how many nights coming home late from sporting events and many activities, our mom always had a hot meal waiting for us. Whether it was 7 p.m. or 9 p.m. it didn’t matter. Oh, and if we needed our uniforms or something washed before the next morning…that would be done that night. No complaints ever from her. So many stories to tell but these are just a few examples of this amazing woman who always gave so much of herself. With this all said even in her last months she never asked for any help or sympathy. She was the strongest woman and the most kind hearted person. Many medical professionals said that she had a “bad” heart. That was a misdiagnosis. Her heart was beyond amazing. She will always be in our minds and hearts for ever as a wife, a mom and a grandmother to us all.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Sr.; children, David (Robin) Woodson, Jr., Steve Woodson, Susan Merzke, Dana (Christine) Woodson, Scott (Beth) Woodson; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Samantha and Adam Woodson; brother, Kurt Leintz; and son-in-law, Mark Merzke.
Services and burial will be private. Arrangements entrusted to the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI.
