On Friday, November 2, 2018, Gaines W. Ellison, a loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 97 in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, OH. The son of Frank and Hester (Smalley) Ellison he was born on September 13, 1921 in Bessemer, AL.
Gaines was a U.S. Army veteran from WWII serving under Gen. George Patton in the 11th Armored Division. After returning home, he started working for the Spicer-Dana Corp. the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor and worked there for 41 years. He was a member of Toledo Fort Industry Lodge for 65 years and the Scottish Rite for 60 years. On July 7, 1956 he married Marie Cone, who preceded him in death on August 8, 2016.
Gaines is survived by his daughters, Kay (Mike) Hough and Jamie (Jim) Dudzik; grandchildren, Jonathan (Mariana), Jeremy (Sarah), Josiah and Joanna; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Tensley and Elora. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Tressie Brunt.
