Virginia Mary “Jeannie” Southers, 73 of Toledo, Ohio passed away on November 4, 2017 in the wonderful care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born July 22, 1944 in Midland, Michigan, daughter of the late Phillip and Leona (Morand) Cauchy.
Jeannie lived in Michigan, Texas, New York and Ohio. She loved to travel and had a great interest in meeting new people and visiting new places. Throughout the many miles traveled she rarely met a stranger. Jeannie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to all whose path she crossed. Jeannie was a woman of faith and very active in the church she loved; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. She spent her life helping others in service to the church and in prison ministry – a special life calling with a foundational belief that she received far more gifts than she ever gave.
For the past 15 years Jeannie enjoyed working in the office of Dr. James C. Kreger, where she had the opportunity to impact patients daily, making their lives brighter with her smile and genuine interest in their well-being.
Jeannie is survived by her husband James “”Jamie”” Southers III of Toledo, OH and her children; Lisa (Bruce) Gustafson of Spring Lake, MI; Christine (Herbert) Elder of Lake Wylie, SC; and Angela (Philip) Long of Byron Center, MI; stepchildren Josh Pendelton of Monroe, MI and Abby Moore of Iron Mountain, MI; beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren Erik, Sean, Katie, Jacob, Zachary, Sophia, Brook, Ava and Maddox; siblings William (Connie) Cauchy, Nanette Swinson , Margaret Rightnouer; brother-in law Bud Coldwell and sister-in-law Mary Ann Cauchy. In addition to her parents, Jeannie was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Brune, brother Michael Cauchy, sister Kay Ann Coldwell, and granddaughter Jessica Mellema.
Visitation for Jeannie will be on November 17, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave, Temperance, MI. where a scripture service will be at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on November 18, 2017 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. where she will lie in state in the narthex after 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations in Jeannie’s name may be made to the Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio.
