Jose Alvarez Sr., 84 years, of Erie, MI and formerly of Temperance, MI passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Foundation Park Care Center, Toledo, OH under the care of Hospice Of Northwest Ohio. The son of Onesimo Alvarez Sr. and Margarita (Gonzalez) Alvarez Trujilo he was born April 17, 1932 in Aransas Pass, Texas.
Jose was a construction worker and member of Michigan Laborers Local 499 for many years. He had a passion for fishing, garage sailing, playing poker and dominos, and really enjoyed and loved his puppy Duke very much. Jose was a jokester and always got a kick out of joking and laughing with everyone he ever knew.
He married Juanita “Juana” Alvarez in Mississippi, Arkansas in 1955 and together they had 10 children; Margarita (Jesse) Amaya, Jose Alvarez Jr., Maria Elana (Donald) Jackson, Gloria Alvarez, Rosamaria (Al) Wehner, Sylvia (Brant) Bastian, Juan, Philip, Antonio and Jesus Alvarez, two brothers; Onesimo (Cuvano) Jr. and Donesio (Nicho) Alvarez, a surviving sister; Maria (Alvarez) Rangel. He had 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, “Very Special” stepfather; Trindad Trujilo, mother, wife, son (Juan), and 2 brothers.
Family and friends may visit Friday, October 14, 2016 in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI from11:00 a.m until time of funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Erie, MI.
