Lela Jean Powers, 78 years, of Riga, MI passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in Lenawee Medical Care Facility. The daughter of Harold and Zela (Dressler) Shiffler she was born on October 18, 1940 in Frontier, MI.
She married Gerald Powers on December 8, 1956 in Frontier Methodist Church. After Gerald passed away, Lela occupied her time volunteering for Meal on Wheels, traveling, and visiting with friends and family up north, in Las Vegas, New Orleans, Texas, North Dakota, Alaska, Hawaii, and Florida. She loved to spend time with her family, hunt mushrooms, sew, crochet, and enjoyed playing the piano. Lela worked as a waitress for many different establishments.
Lela is survived by her children, Beth Simon, Scott (Nancy) Powers and Dawn (Jim) Rowe; siblings, Lilah (Jim) Francisco, Wendell (Judy) Shiffler, Walter (Linda) Shiffler and Willis (Debbie) Shiffler; sister-in-law, Anna Shiffler; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; son, Mark; son-in-law, Jeff Simon; brother, Wallace and sister, Leona.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. in Riga Trinity Lutheran Church7623 Riga Hwy, Riga, MI 49276. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Lenawee. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave, Temperance, MI.
