Leo Adoline Jr., 97 years, of Temperance, MI passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28th, 2021 after a life full of joy, love, humor, perseverance, and hard work. Known as Junior to his siblings, Grandpa, Papa Leo, Great Papa, Uncle Leo and Uncle Junior to others.
Leo always was kind and giving of himself to all family members and everyone he ever met. He shared his stories and loved to hear yours.
He met the love of his life in 1944 and married Eileen M. Dressel on January 13, 1945. They were married just short of 70 years until Eileen passed on December 8, 2014.
Leo, the oldest son of six children, was born May 18, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio to Leo and Louise (Closson) Adoline. He graduated from Macomber H.S. in 1940. He served for the U.S. Army Air Force after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. He served during WWII as a P-47 fighter pilot. Leo was the last of 350 elite pilots trained for the invasion of Japan.
After serving in the Air Force Leo returned to civilian life and began his career as a design engineer. He worked full time and attended The University of Toledo to study Mechanical Engineering. His experience with his flying made it ideal to work for the defense contractors in Toledo, Packard Motors, AO Smith. Then several other companies before working for Kimball Glass & Owens Illinois. He worked for Kent Owens Machine Co. as the Chief Engineer, retired from Libbey Glass and then retired from Glasstech. He continued his career at Solar Cells and later was called First Solar. He finished his career as a Development Engineer with Willard & Kelsey in 2011. Leo was awarded a patent for the coating process and proprietary coater for solar films.
Leo and Eileen attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where he was the past President of the parish council and would host many of the visiting priests at their home. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus!
Surviving are his loving daughter, Colleen and son, Larry; grandchildren, Brian Adoline, Scott (Monika) Michalski, Brittany Adoline, Lisa (Mike) Milam; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia Adoline (Brian), Mason Hancock (Lisa), Chase Milam (Lisa), Emily Adoline (Brittany), Mila Michalski (Scott), Callie Michalski (Scott), all of whom loved him and interacted with him in their own special way. He loved his grandchildren and was so proud of all of them.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eileen (12-08-2014); siblings, Maggie Stambaugh, Thelma Buckholz, Jack Adoline, Gene Adoline and Bill Adoline. Surviving is his sister in law, Roxanne(Gene) Adoline.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI where a Eulogy Service will be held at 6:15 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus praying the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery on Erie Rd. where Military Honors will be conducted by Lambertville VFW Post 9656, celebrating his service to his country during WWII.
The family would like to thank the Ebeid Hospice center for the care and kindness to make his final days comfortable. Also thank you to the Goerlich Center where he spent time at.
