Leona May Johnson, 90 years, of Temperance, MI passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in Hickory Ridge of Temperance. The daughter of Charles and Elgie (Nickerson) Rice she was born November 18, 1925 in Toledo, OH. A graduate of Clay High School; Leona retired from the U.S. Post Office in Ida, MI after 21 years.
She was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, and Cleveland Indians. Leona loved reading, genealogy, scrapbooking, cross stitching, traveling, and shopping. She married the love of her life Ivan in 1946, and were together till his death in 1985.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Janet (Doug) Kish, Joanne (Chris) Wunderlin, Terri (John) Wenzel; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; daughter, Carol; brothers, Fred and Bud.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI where the Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A private burial will be held in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
