Marjorie Anne (Gfell) Hofheinz, age 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. The daughter of Russell and Myrtle (Myers) Gfell she was born, February 20, 1938 in Norwalk, OH.
Marge was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hofheinz. Marge is survived by her children, Scott (Julie) Hofheinz and Amy Fleck (Joe Toeppe); Grandchildren, Thad (Maranda) Hofheinz and Caleb Hofheinz, Baleigh (Mariah) Fleck, Kyle Fleck, and Great Grandchildren, Jaidyn, Theo and Hazel Hofheinz.
A graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in education, Marge accepted her first teaching job at 29 Palms High School in California. It was there that she met the love of her life, Dave. They enjoyed 58 years of love and unwavering devotion to one another. Marge excelled in her teaching career for 35 years. She loved working with kids of all ages and was awarded Whitmer High School Teacher of the Year in 1984 for her involvement and understanding of students.
Her love of family was immense. She and Dave had two children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Time spent with everyone at home over a meal, or at the cottage having fun, Marge was at her very best. She took genuine interest in what everyone was doing and supported her family unconditionally. No phone call ever ended without her telling you she loved you and to be safe.
A true friend to so many, Marge loved spending time with her close friends from church or chatting with neighbors. She loved watching Ohio State Football games and spending time at the family cottage. With a wonderful eye for detail and design, Marge found so much joy making her home and cottage picture perfect. It was often said that she would decorate her house all the way to the curb. She didn’t miss a thing.
Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16,, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00pm in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI 48182. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, March 17, 2023 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
