Mary Burghardt

Mary K Burghardt, 85, of Temperance, MI passed away peacefully early in the morning on April 23, 2018.  She was born December 19, 1932 to Norman and Catherine (Goss) Younglove Sr.  She married Roy D. Burghardt on February 24, 1962. They raised a family of 7 children together. 

She was a homemaker most of her life, although she sometimes worked outside the home at various part time jobs.  These included restaurant work, nurse’s aide, and a lunch room and playground supervisor at Smith Road School.  She spent many years as a Cub Scout den mother to pack 777.  She was always full of advice for her teen daughters’ and their friends.

An avid dancer, she enjoyed the events and dances at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles on Jackman Road in Toledo, and was a past member of Women of the Moose 714, Monroe and Ladies VFW.  She was an active member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Keenager’s group until her health declined. 

Her Catholic faith was very important to her.  She spoke fondly of her times growing up and attending the various churches in Monroe.  She was a long time member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Temperance, MI.

She loved to travel and was able to visit many states including North Carolina, California, Texas, North Dakota, Nevada (Las Vegas), and even lived for a short time in Alaska and Florida.

 She was especially proud of her many grandchildren. She loved spoiling the babies and attending school functions.

She is survived by her sons, Roy N., Raymond; daughters, Ida (Scott) Hall, Kathy (Paul) Kerstetter, Rose (LeRoy) Hugney; daughter-in-law, Susie Wood; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Paul) Martin, Bruce (Christina Baribeault) Wood, Tony and Emma Kerstetter, Brian, Hannah and Will Hall, and Grace Hugney; great-grandchildren, Noah, Anne, Marissa and Jonathon Martin, and Kyle and Katie Chadwell. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Toye and brother William Younglove. 

She was preceded in death by husband Roy; sons, Bruce G. Wood, William and Frank Burghardt; sister, Sarah Burkey; brothers, Frank, Norman Jr. and Joseph, and her recently deceased brother-in-law James Toye. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday April 25, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday April 26, 2018 at 11:00AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, where she will lie in state from 10:00AM.  Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery.
