Mary Ellen Carleski (Healy), 83 years, of Temperance, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at St. Anne’s Mercy Hospital, Toledo, OH., after succumbing to complications from diabetes. Mary Ellen was born on May 17, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN to Francis C. and Virginia (Woods) Healy. She was a quality control lab technician for over 20 years at Hunt Wesson Foods.
An eternal optimist, Ellen loved flower gardening, swimming and being with friends and family. No one had more fun than “Ellen” as she was known by to her friends. Ellen was always on the move, setting an example to her children on how to live a good life through hard work, helping others, having friends and enjoying life every minute. A classic example of how she approached life was when she took us sledding in her early 30s. She jumped on the sled though, we warned her there was a ramp at the bottom of the big steep hill. She laughed it off and continued on her way. She spent the next few days laid up in bed after that experience.
You can not write about Ellen’s life without a special mention of her beloved son, Steven, who shared a special bond with his mother. Each of them took care of each other at different times in their lives. Steven was his mom’s primary caretaker through countless trips to dialysis and doctor appointments; through good times and bad, Steven was always there for her. No words can possibly express our gratitude to Steven for his efforts.
Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Tracy (Gambrell) Cox, Kevin A. Cox, Cary F. Cox, Steven D. Cox and Darren T. Cox; grandchildren, Sharene Gambrell and Cameron Cox; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Helena; nieces and nephews as well as special people in her life her beloved sister, Carole (Deceased), friends, Judy Travis, Shirley Sterling (Deceased), Maria Adams (Deceased) and many co-workers who shared good times with Ellen. She is preceded in death by her parents and her ex-husband, Lloyd G. Cox.
