Miriam “Midge” Terese Sherman, 94 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 9, 2025 in her Temperance, MI home. The daughter of John and Stella (Iott) Wilkinson she was born February 7, 1931 and raised in Ottawa Lake, MI. She married Leonard Sherman and they made their home in Temperance. He preceded her in death.
Midge was an avid volunteer throughout her life and dedicated many hours to various organizations. For her church she helped with the St. Anthony Funeral Dinner Organization and the St. Anthony Mother’s Club. She held a flower stand for 40 years at the Toledo Farmers Market.
In her community, she also volunteered at the RSVP, Meals-on-Wheels, the Cancer Connection, The Red Cross, Hospice, Lion’s Den, Friends of the Bedford Library, Bedford Senior Center, Henry Ford Theater, Historical Society of Monroe County, Banner Oak School and for many years was a Master Gardener at the Toledo Botanical Garden.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Bedford Herb Group of which she was the founder, and Bedford Garden Club. She also judged the 4H Flower contest for the Monroe County Fair. Miriam was honored to receive the Minuteman Award for volunteerism in the community.
She is survived by her 5 children, Emma (Dennis) Pogarch, Andrew Sherman, Gerard Sherman, Ann Ansel, and John Sherman; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and one more on the way; brother, William Wilkinson; sisters, Donna Knaggs, Yvonne Estrella and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Collette Sherman; sons, Benjamin and David Sherman; grandson, Christopher Jay Sherman; brothers, John, James, Joseph and Charles.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI where the funeral service will be held Monday, August 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Temperance.
