Norman E. Snyder Jr., 88 years, of Temperance, MI passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025
in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH. The son of Norman E. and Irene (Dan)
Snyder Sr. he was born December 19, 1936 in Toledo. Norman built his Temperance home and
has lived there since 1961.
A proud graduate of Waite High School, he continued his education at the University of
Toledo, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Norman was a registered
professional engineer for the State of Ohio.
Norman worked for Jeep Corporation as a Plant engineer for 26 years; having had an
affinity for Jeep vehicles throughout the years. He served as a Union Steward for the UAW and
engaged with his co-workers to solve problems for many years earning the nickname “Stormin
Norman”. He retired on September 1, 2001.
As an engineer, Norman was quite the craftsman and helped build the original home and
subsequent addition, the backyard swimming pool, an outdoor skating rink, miniature racetrack
in the basement, and multiple vintages of pine box derby cars.
Norman loved spending time with his family, camping, attending family reunions,
participating in Indian guides, doing puzzles, playing various games, and eating at the Original
Tony Packo’s on Front Street. An avid Ohio State and UT Basketball fan, his sporting interest
was strong! More so he loved to cheer on his grandchildren at softball and volleyball games.
He surprised people with his special talent of playing the accordion and loved to play for
his family.
Norman and his wife, Phyllis have been members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in
Temperance and have enjoyed their fellowship there for 60 years, where they were active
members and served on many committees, helping coordinate ministries, and participating in
volunteer activities. They were also involved in a strong Lutheran Marriage Encounter group to
which they built lifelong friendships.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis (Gephart); children, Jeff (Tammy) Snyder,
Jenny (Scott) Larsen, Laura (John) Quinn, Kevin (Carolyn) Snyder, Brad (BK) Snyder;
grandchildren, Brandie, Josh, Erin, Shannon, Jessica, Chelsea, Will, Luke, and Kayleb; and 14
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Snyder.
Visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s
Lutheran Church 1690 West Sterns Rd, Temperance, MI where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with lunch following. Inurnment will be at a later date in Whiteford Union
