Richard (Dick) Henry Boehme Sr., age 84 of Temperance, Michigan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Aspen Grove Village.
At a very early age, Dick moved from Toledo, Ohio to Bedford Township, where he became a lifelong resident of Temperance. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1949 and upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He was proud to serve as a Marine in the Korea Conflict. After leaving the Marines, Dick went on to become an electrician working at the Standard Oil Refinery and General Motors (Toledo Transmission Plant) where he retired in 1996.
Dick was well known in the Bedford area, where he served as a volunteer Fireman for 21 years on the Bedford Township Fire Department and three years as Assistant Fire Chief . He participated in the Bedford 3-B baseball program as a commissioner and was a trainer for Bedford Hockey for multiple years. He was an active member Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance. In 2006, Dick was inducted into the Bedford Hall of Fame.
Dick loved spending time with his family. He would attend every sporting event of his children whether it was football, hockey, track, college cheering and poms. If it meant he left work early or run across the street during his lunch hour to watch a hockey game. One of his greatest joys were his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their hockey games, dance recitals, ball games and skating competitions, always there to give them support or a hug when they needed it.
He was a sportsman of all seasons, chasing turkeys in the spring, fishing in the summer, pheasant hunting with his loved dogs in the fall and deer hunting in the winter with his sons and grandsons. Dick also enjoyed watching his favorite hockey team, the Red Wings.
His zest for life was one of his most endearing qualities, along with his crazy sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed playing a good practical joke on family or fellow workers. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lola (Markos) Boehme, his four children, Richard (Lindy) H. Boehme Jr., Stephanie (David) Taylor, Janis (John) Puskar, and Christopher (Laurie) Boehme, and his grandchildren, Stephen Boehme, Krysten Boehme, Jonathan Puskar, Jordan Puskar, Reese Boehme, and great-grandchild Olivia Boehme.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI.
