Ruth Genevieve (LaVoy) Myers, 103 years, peacefully passed away in her sleep on November 23, 2024. She spent her final days as she spent her life, surrounded by loved ones gathered to enjoy each other’s company.
Ruth was born on January 3, 1921 in Toledo, OH. She was the second eldest of nine children and spent her formative years at the family farm in Erie, MI. Her childhood was full of hard work and big adventures. Ruth met her future husband, Melvin Myers, while roller skating at a local roller rink. They had a four-year courtship during WWII and married on December 1, 1945. Together they raised four children in Temperance, MI during their 56-year marriage.
Ruth had an affable personality and excelled at numerous crafts. She tailored suits, sewed quilts, and made tasty cookies, pies and cakes. She and Mel loved traveling and visited all 50 states, as well as traveling internationally.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Diane (Ed) Eckhart, Denise (Ron) Newby, Doug Myers and Don (Cindy) Myers, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three siblings, James LaVoy, Sr. Joyce LaVoy O.P., and Raymond LaVoy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Isadore and Matilda (Meinig) LaVoy, husband, Melvin Myers; five siblings, Margaret Vogan, Sr. Dolores LaVoy O.P., Marie Kent, Lois LaVoy and Richard LaVoy.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in St. Clement’s Catholic Church 3030 Tremainsville Road Toledo, OH where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. The mass can be viewed by watching YouTube Channel St Clement Toledo. Burial will follow in Whiteford Union Cemetery, Whiteford Twp., MI. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ohio Living Hospice, 1730 S. Reynolds Road Toledo, OH 43614.
