Samuel “Sam” Ray Phillips, 80 years, of Toledo, OH passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025. The son of Harry and Beth (Blauvelt) Phillips, he was born on October 21, 1944 in Toledo, OH.
Sam retired after many years as Operations Manager from Northern Steel Transport. Beyond his professional life, Sam’s passions were deeply rooted in the water. From his youth, he was an avid boater and fisherman, finding solace and joy on the Maumee Bay and Lake Erie. This love for the water led him to a cherished 30-year membership with the Toledo Ice Yacht Club, a testament to his enduring commitment and camaraderie.
Sam is survived by his sons, Andrew and Jeffrey “Flip” (Kelly) Phillips; grandchildren, Jeffrey Phillips II and Cassandra (Chad) Arnold; sister, Betsy Sheehy; many nieces and nephews and his precious dog, Lulu. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daniel Phillips.
Sam was a man of style and a friend to all. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A memorial gathering will be on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where sharing of memories will be at 6:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Toledo Ice Yacht Club Junior Sailing.
