Scott Heiden, 63 years, of Commerce Township, MI, passed away at home on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
Scott was a graduate of Bedford High School where he lettered in varsity hockey and played the trombone in concert and marching band. He graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1984, where he completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering and enjoyed being a member of the pep band.
Scott married his beloved wife Linda (Kuhn) Heiden on April 18, 1986, two years to the day from when they first met. Together with their sons, Zachary and Cameron, they traveled, camped, and explored across the country. Their goal was to visit as many of the 50 states as possible. Although they didn’t reach that goal, but they enjoyed exploring every state they visited.
Ever the planner, Scott always had trips and activities in mind, such as trailer camping with his family, high adventure trips to remote locations, or simply going fishing and hiking with his sons and friends. He strived to involve other people in everything he did in order to share his joy of living. Everywhere he went, he talked with new people, trying to learn all he could.
Scott earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1976. Inspired by his sons and great leaders from his own childhood in scouting, he was a founding member of Troop 777 in Temperance in 1998, serving as Scoutmaster for 12 years. His passion for scouting and the wonder of the great outdoors was infectious and touched the lives of countless young men and their fathers passing through the troop. He was proud of the many Eagle Scouts that passed through Troop 777 under his tutelage. Scott also planned and led many high adventure trips during and after his years in scouting, taking groups to places they would have never seen otherwise. In addition to scouting, Scott also coached hockey for his sons.
In their retirement, Scott and Linda enjoyed traveling and trailer camping, exploring and picnicking at new parks, and spending their days together with family and friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Carol Heiden, and sister-in-law, Susan Heiden. Also, their beloved four-legged babies, Rocky, Paige, and grand baby, Tessa.
Scott is survived by Linda, his beloved wife of 38 years; two sons, Zach (Addie) Heiden and Cam (Bea) Heiden; two brothers, Tom (Donata) Heiden; their sons, Adam and Dylan, and Tim Heiden; and his sons and daughter, Jay, Nick, and Gabriel.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. immediately followed by a luncheon on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1690 Sterns Rd. Temperance, MI 48182. Scott will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery following the service in a private ceremony for the family.
