Stephen Lampkowski, 73, went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2021 with his family holding his hands. Stan was born on January 3, 1948 to Harry and Alice (Szymanski) Lampkowski in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1966. Throughout his life Stan worked in skilled trades and retired as a machinist.
He was a proud union member and found a home at UAW Local 12, spending 18 years as a board member. Stan carried on the work of his father, advocating for the rights of workers throughout his life. Softball was a passion for Stan both as a player and coach. The sport helped to connect him with his wife Bonnie, their union leading to two children and four grandsons.
Stan fought many battles to win more time with his family because it was of the utmost importance to him. He loved hunting and fishing with his family. He felt at home walking into the woods in the dark to spend time in a blind observing nature and was always happy to harvest a meal to bring home. Part of his legacy is a respect for the land and all it can provide, encouraging others to leave it better than they found it. He was a longtime fan of The Ohio State University and every Buckeye game was a chance for Stan to cheer with those he loved. Everyone got a high five for a touchdown. Go Bucks!! Travel around the United States was very important to him; his family went on adventures to the Smoky Mountains, Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, and many more wonders our country has to offer. Taking children who were six and four years old to the Grand Canyon did make him a little nervous though! He and his wife Bonnie enjoyed many vacations on their own as well, making memories that will provide joy and comfort for many years to come.
Stan’s parents went home before him, along with his brothers, Chuck (Carol) and Ray. To celebrate his memory, he leaves his wife of 40 years, Bonnie (Wilcox) Lampkowski; two children, Sara (Richard) Guiher and Joe (Ashley) Lampkowski; four grandsons, Avery, Jackson, Isaiah, and Liam; five siblings, Cathy (Marty) Keane, Mike (Gayle) Lampkowski, Ann Lampkowski, Linda (Dennis) Tubbs, and Jeff (Jackie) Lampkowski.
One of Stan’s least favorite things was watching kids go through the same cancer treatments he was. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. https://nationalpcf.org/
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave Temperance, MI 48182.
