On Wednesday, June 29th, 2022, after a long and courageous fight with cancer, Valerie closed her eyes for the final time, leaving behind a lasting legacy of sunshine on the hearts of all those that knew her.
The oldest of four, Valerie Ann (Wilkinson) Tubbs was born to Doris Carter (Davis) on March 12th, 1957.
While she loved her brothers, her youngest sister Kathy was born on Val’s 7th birthday, creating an unbreakable bond. A very studious and kind young woman, Valerie graduated from Bedford High School and spent afternoons working at Independent Dairy. Not long after high school, Valerie met the love of her life; Christopher Tubbs Sr. The pair were married on July 16th, 1977 at The Bedford Church of the Nazarene. The two quickly set to work building their lifelong legacy. Despite being opposites in many ways, and overcoming many challenges together, the pair were a true example of what “Until death do us part” means. Not only did Valerie raise four children, she spent many years caring for others as well. She also worked for over twenty years at The Toledo Clinic, forming special relationships with doctors, coworkers, and patients alike. In Valerie’s spare time, she loved to have her hands in the dirt, to play Yahtzee and Bunco, but most of all, to spend time with all of her cherished family and friends. Valerie was fond of coffee, Baby Yoda, and cats. She was a beautiful soul who didn’t know a stranger, and brought light to the darkest of moments.
Left to continue her legacy are; Elizabeth (Jason) Samples, Shelley (Tom) Searl, Christopher Tubbs II, and Paul (Jackie) Tubbs. She will be deeply missed by her wonderful grandchildren; Corban, Heidi, Natalie, Tye, Liam, Ben, Caden, and Keelie. Valerie is also survived by her brothers Kim (Kimra) Wilkinson and David (Georgette) Wilkinson, the Tubbs family, many special nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends too numerous to count. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Christopher, her mother Doris, her sister Kathy, her mother-in-law Barb, and her father-in-law Pete.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Phinney, the staff at The Toledo Clinic and those on the 7th floor of Flower Hospital, as well as the special individuals at Hospice of Lenawee.
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard. But always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.”
A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI. Burial of ashes will be private at a later date in Bedford Memorial Gardens.
