William J. Orwig Sr.

William John Orwig Sr., 88 years, of Lambertville, MI passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026 in his home. The son of John and Olive (Cherry) Orwig, he was born August 26, 1937 in Sylvania, OH.

He was a 1955 graduate of Burnham High School. He retired from DeVilbiss. On

July 1, 1961, he married Judith Ann (Schmidt) Orwig in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Petersburg, MI. They loved to travel together. She was everything to him. They spent 43 beautiful years together.

A United States Air Force Veteran, William was a big supporter of the troops. He served honorably from June 1955 to December 1958.

Dedicated to his community, he was a leader for Cub Scout Pack 40 and Boy Scout Troop 320 at Douglas Road Elementary, helping mentor countless young people.  A passionate University of Michigan Fan he enjoyed watching Michigan Football and Basketball. He was an avid Euchre player who looked forward to gathering with his friends on Thursdays and Fridays for many enjoyable games. Above all, he was a devoted father who made it a priority to be involved in his children’s lives, volunteering his time and coaching their basketball, baseball and soccer community education teams. William served as a volunteer with the Bedford Fire Department.

He is survived by his children, John Orwig, Willy (Beth Warren) Orwig, Dawn Orwig, and Robert (Becky) Orwig; 7 grandchildren, Daren, Tyler, Jordan (Eric), Harley, Lizzy, Cameron and Colton; 6 great-grandchildren, EJ, NIO, Amorah, Khaleesi, Zoie and Maeve.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith, son, Timothy Cupp and his parents.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where the funeral service will be held Monday, August 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Whiteford Union Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the Lambertville VFW Post 9656. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the American Legion Post 192. We ask that you wear Michigan clothes for Sunday’s Visitation.
