Catherine Mary Shank

Catherine Mary Shank, 102 years, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in The Toledo Hospital. The daughter of Marcel and Mary (Dudek) Zych she was born December 12, 1920 in Toledo.

She married Lloyd A. Shank who preceded her in death in 2010.

Catherine started working at a very young age. First, cleaning homes and babysitting and then she worked at the Tiedtke’s lunch counter. During the war she started working at Doehler-Jarvis, which is where she met her husband, Lloyd. She continued working for many years and retired from General Mills in Toledo.

An excellent seamstress and knitter, she enjoyed working in her yard, cooking and baking. Catherine had many dogs during her lifetime which brought her great joy.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Debra Kay (Patrick) Sugrue; 3 grandchildren, Dr. Patrick (Melissa) Sugrue, Vanessa (Clifford) Richmond, Megan (Beau) Woodruff; and blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, Teddy Richmond, Madeline Woodruff, Penelope Woodruff; sister, Florence Swiderski; nephew, Walter (Kay) Zych; nieces, Patsy Schultz, Valerie (Dick) Brazeau, Paulette (Reg) Atties, Christine (George) Wolfer; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Walter (Sophie) Zych; sister, Genieve (Chester) Pruchniak; and brother-in-law, Edward Swiderski.

A graveside memorial service will be held Monday, June 19, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Erie Union Cemetery, Cemetery Rd. between Samaria Rd. and Rauch Rd., Erie, MI.

The family would like to thank the staff at Aspen Grove where she lived the last years of her life and to the staff at The Toledo Hospital ICU. Also, a special thank you to Sherry Duffy for all the help that was given and Elona for her friendship in her later years.
