Diane Marie Healy, née Belanger, was born on October 12, 1940 and died on June 1, 2025. She was 84 years old, and despite her dementia’s best efforts, she lived a long and diverting life. Diane was the last of her generation. She is survived by 4 of her 6 children, Michelle (Dean) Thayer, Robin Bahls, Mindy Zezula, Kristi (Michael) Smith, daughter-in-law, Julie Healy and son-in-law, Eric Moore; along with 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Diane was preceded in death by husband of 40 years, Blain; son, Keith Healy and daughter, Heather Moore.
Grandma began showing symptoms of dementia over a decade ago, and held on way past when we thought she would. It’s a very weird and uncomfortable human experience knowing that someone you love is going to die soon but not exactly when. She wasn’t supposed to make it beyond five years after her diagnosis, but the doctors didn’t take into consideration that she was an excruciatingly stubborn and tough old broad. She simply refused to keel over and kept every ounce of her personality through it all.
Although I don’t share my grandma’s faith, I know that determined little lady made it to the glorious land she always dreamed of with her late husband Blain, two children, Heather and Keith, and three siblings, Eddie, Ruth, and Gary. I remember her in every butterfly I see in the summer on the river, every clever woman I meet, and every harlequin romance novel with some Fabio knockoff on the cover I come across.
