Douglas Thomas Scavio, 76 years, of Temperance, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. He was born on September 11, 1949, in Sandusky, OH to Thomas and Marjorie (Baker) Scavio.
Doug was a proud military veteran who served his country in the U.S Navy and generously donated his time to the VA. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus of the Raisin River Assembly #0488 and was a past Grand Knight of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Council #8902. Doug was devoted to his church; he also served as an altar server and worked many funeral masses. He never missed a sporting event for his grandchildren and deeply loved his family. He worked for 30 years at General Motors, retiring in 2008. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, golfing, and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.
He married the love of his life, Diane Majchszak, on September 18, 1999 and she survives. Doug is also survived by his children, Jennifer (Mike) Hackette, Amy (Rob) Heintschel, Gia (Ryan) Schwartz, Joshua (Alison) Scavio; grandchildren, Emily and Natalie Hackette, Gavin and Nathan Heintschel, Caitlyn and Ryan Jr. Schwartz, Nathan Bennett, Landon Mohr and Lucas Scavio; sisters, Renee (Jim) Hofbauer and Marsha (Paul) Yeager and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Scavio.
Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI where the Knights of Columbus will pray the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by the presentation of the Chalice. The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 8330 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where there will be visiting in the narthex after 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.
