Douglas Thomas Scavio, 76 years, of Temperance, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. He was born on September 11, 1949, in Sandusky, OH to Thomas and Marjorie (Baker) Scavio.

Doug was a proud military veteran who served his country in the U.S Navy and generously donated his time to the VA. He was a 4^th degree Knight of Columbus of the Raisin River Assembly #0488 and was a past Grand Knight of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Council #8902. Doug was devoted to his church; he also served as an altar server and worked many funeral masses. He never missed a sporting event for his grandchildren and deeply loved his family. He worked for 30 years at General Motors, retiring in 2008. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, golfing, and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.

He married the love of his life, Diane Majchszak, on September 18, 1999 and she survives. Doug is also survived by his children, Jennifer (Mike) Hackette, Amy (Rob) Heintschel, Gia (Ryan) Schwartz, Joshua (Alison) Scavio; grandchildren, Emily and Natalie Hackette, Gavin and Nathan Heintschel, Caitlyn and Ryan Jr. Schwartz, Nathan Bennett, Landon Mohr and Lucas Scavio; sisters, Renee (Jim) Hofbauer and Marsha (Paul) Yeager and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Scavio.

Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI where the Knights of Columbus will pray the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by the presentation of the Chalice. The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 8330 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where there will be visiting in the narthex after 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.

To Doug's family, We have known Doug for a long time at Our Lady Of Mt.Carmel. We ushered with Doug & our paths have crossed at many events at church. We went to mass on the feast of the Immaculate Mary on Monday & were shocked to hear of his passing a day or 2 later. Doug was involved in a lot of things at OLMC. He use to tell us of spending time with his Mom in Sandusy & seemed to enjoy visiting her. Sorry we couldn't make it to the services May he rest in peace. Our deepest sympathy. Jim & Pat Lammers

I remember Doug so well having had his wonderful children at Bedford High School!!! He was a kind man and caring father! My deepest condolences go to Jennifer, Amy, Gia and Josh and their families. I am so sorry I was not able to come to the funeral home. ♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏.

Diane so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing . I remember when I and Marilyn first met him when he moved from Sandusky . We had many good memories from then working and social gatherings. Lost contact after retirement but have fond memories of. So sorry for your loss

I met Doug 4 years ago as a volunteer the the Toledo VA Clinic. He personally mentored me for the job of front desk greeter. Doug was always quick with a smile and his enthusiasm was constantly on display. We had similar Navy backgrounds separated by a few years. He loved swapping stories about the P-3 Orion and it's missions. I firmly believe he is in the arms of our Lord and Savior. It was an honor to have known Doug, and his memory will live on in my heart. My sincere condolences to his entire family, all of whom Doug was extremely proud.

My deepest condolences to the family- DOug was a fabulous person- his involvement with the K of C and our Lady of mt Carmel parish was incredible. I will never forget our times of volunteering together. Rest in peace brother knight.

Very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I worked with Doug with Perkins Police back in the early seventies. He was a great guy we had lots of fun. Condolences to all.

Renee and family, We are so sorry for your loss. As you know Doug and I remained good friends from near the end of high school to the present day. We worked together at Holiday Inn as well as the gas station next door. You may recall our families new each other as we all belonged to St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. And I had contacts with your dad when I filed for product pick up while at Union Chain. Doug was good people. And as his friend I am also his Brother as a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be added to our list of those deceased at Council 13525 and we pray for those who have passed and those remain on our list forever. The world just lost a really good man. MTF

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Last Saturday 12.6.25 I rejoiced with my friend Doug. WE talked about how blessed he was. How wonderful his family and friends were, and we even talked about where we would be buried. We laughed and REJOICED. Now a couple days later I am weeping for his family and friends, My condolences go out to the family and to us friends. Doug it was pleasure knowing you. See you in heaven my friend, where we will rejoice again.

I am very sorry for your loss. I had the honor of meeting Mr. Scavio the day before veterans day. The school I work at had a service honoring our veterans. The pride in his eyes as he stood to be recognized was incredible. His sister stood proudly with him. Prayers to the family.
