Elizabeth Mary Sedlar, of Dundee, MI passed away Tuesday morning at the Ebeid Hospice Residence at Flower Hospital where she had been a patient since Sunday. Elizabeth was 98 years old.
Born in Ashland Wisconsin in 1918, Elizabeth (Betty) was the only child of Frank Pohl and Margaret Sauber. She moved to Germany with her family in 1921 and return to the United States in 1928, settling in Toledo, Ohio. Betty graduated from Waite High School 1938 and worked as a secretary for a short time after graduation. She met Mike Sedlar in 1939 and they were married in 1941 at St. John’s Church in Point Place, Ohio. They moved to a farm in Ida Township in 1943 where they raised their family where she lived until 2010. Most recently she lived in Dundee with her son David.
Betty was a devout Catholic, rarely missing mass on Sunday and holy days throughout the year. She was an active member of St. Anthony parish in Temperance, Michigan for most of her adult life. Being an only child, Betty loved spending time with her large and boisterous family and traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. Betty had an independent spirit. She loved to drive and, all things being perfect, she would have loved to continue to do so until the last. She will be remembered for her limitless kindness, her boundless energy and her insatiable sweet tooth. Everyone who knew Betty loved Betty and were blessed to have had her in their lives. She will be most certainly missed.
Betty was preceded by her father, her husband Mike, her step-sister, Barbara; 2 sons, Joseph and Edward. She is survived by her children Frank (Dianne) Sedlar of St.Louis, Michigan, Patricia (Blair) Hoppert of Ida, Michigan, Michael (Diane) Sedlar of Ida, Michigan, Marie (David – deceased) Drinkhouse of Wasilla, Alaska, Chuck (Debbie) Sedlar of Temperance, Michigan, David Sedlar of Dundee, Michigan, Diane (Bill) VanWormer of Fort Lupton, Colorado, and Jeanette (Steve) Stotz of Ida, Michigan, In addition she is survived by 23 grandchildren, 33 great grand children and 2 great-great grandchildren
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church 4605 St. Anthony Road, Temperance, MI. where she will lie in state in the narthex after 10:00 a.m.
