Gloria “Sue” Rainey, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 21, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved daughters, Brinda Carpenter and Crystal Ivey; her parents, Phoebe (Baldwin) and Miles Rowe; and her siblings, Debbie and Charlie. She was born July 20, 1941 in Grundy, VA.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Gloria leaves behind her loving husband, Larry Rainey, and her loyal dog, Missy. She is also survived by her daughters, Kathy Fowler, Patty (Bill) Leonard, Susie (Torrance) Flowers, and Heather Rainey; sister, Roberta (Bob) Miller; along with many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
Known for her quick wit and ability to make anyone laugh, Sue had a heart that uplifted everyone around her. She was the foundation of her family, always offering love, laughter, and encouragement.
Sue found joy in life’s simple pleasures, planting flowers in her garden, spending time on the golf course, getting lost in a good book, or searching for treasures at garage sales. She also enjoyed the excitement of a trip to the casino and cherished time spent at the family condo in Daytona Beach, FL. She also loved a good margarita.
Sue’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to honor her life.
