On Friday, May 16, 2025, Irving B. Zakrzewski passed away peacefully, at the age of 99 years old. Irv was born on March 28, 1926, to Walter and Martha (Kostowski) Zakrzewski.
Irv’s early years were spent in the Lagrinka neighborhood of Toledo, OH. He attended Woodward High School. During World War II, Irv enlisted in the U.S. Navy before his 18thbirthday and proudly served in the Pacific on the USS LST-703.
Following his service, Irv attended drafting school which launched a several decade career at SSOE. Irv and his wife, Alvina (Zakrzewski) settled in the Point Place area and enjoyed many wonderful years together prior to her passing in 1997. Sometime after, Vivian Martin and Irv began a companionship that lasted until 2023 when Vivian passed.
Over the years Irv enjoyed golfing, bowling, boating, polka-dancing, the casino, the Mud Hens, and traveling the world with his wife and special companion. Plus, Irv has been known to play the accordion occasionally. Throughout his life, he displayed an unwavering faith in God and an enormous love of family.
He was a longtime involved member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church and was currently a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, MI.
Irv is survived by his nieces, Constance Zakrzewski, Carol (Tom) Bedell, (Jimmy’s wife) Janine Zakrzewski, Laura (Rick) Kott, Sandy (Sis) Guiliani, and nephew, Mark (Elaine) Zakrzewski along with many more great-nieces, great-nephews, many dear friends, Vivian Martin’s family, and his family at Hampton Manor.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ron (Joanne Kwiatkowski), Babe (Patricia Koczorowski), nephew, Jimmy Zakrzewski, and great-niece, Calista Zakrzewski.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 22, 2025 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. where there will be visiting in the Narthex after 10:00 a.m.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Toledo, OH with military honors conducted by the Lambertville VFW Post 9656.
