Joan Julia Anklam, 91 years, of Orchard Lake, MI passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 in Aspen Grove Assisted Living Lambertville, MI under the care of Elara Caring Hospice. The daughter of Joe and Bessie (Lavene) Anderson she was born on June 16, 1932 in Flint, MI.
Joan’s first and lifelong passion was classical piano. Her mother taught her piano at the age 3. She even played a piano solo with the Flint Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12. As a teen, she studied at Interlochen Music Camp and became very proficient. Joan continued this passion throughout her entire life.
Joan married Dallas W. Cargill in 1954 and from that marriage they had two children, Michelle Joan (Jerry) Porter and Marcia Lynn Cargill.
Joan had a special love for animals, especially her cats. She supported animal organizations for many years. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching but what Joan loved most of all was simply spending time with family.
She was fortunate to experience a 2nd loving family of step-children; Carla (George) Malburg, Linda (Bill) Roberts, Yvette (Fernando) Valdez, Conrad (Lynne) Anklam; step-grandchildren, Laura (Josh) O’Neil, Rachel Malberg, Stephanie Roberts, Frannie Valdez, Morgan Valdez, Leah (Austin) Maronel; as well as 5 nieces, Connie (Doug) Denstead, Laurie (Dave) Sorenson, Lynn (Brad) Maxon, Kathy (Aaron) Brasfield; 2 nephews, Chris (Lorene) Anderson and Joe Bernecker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Joe Anderson; first husband, Dallas Cargill; second husband, Delbert Anklam; 2 siblings and their spouses, Christine (Ken) Bernecker and Norman (Monnie) Anderson.
