Joanne Ruth Kinney, 96 years, of Erie, MI passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025 at her grandson’s home under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The daughter of Elmer and Irene (Sheckler) Daniels she was born on July 7, 1929 in Whiteford Township, MI.

Joanne was a school bus driver for Mason Consolidated Schools for 30 years. Family time was important to Joanne, especially camping with them in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She loved gardening, fishing and making jams and pies.

Joanne is survived by her son, Norm Kinney and daughter, Joanne Marquis; siblings, Sharon (Rich) Roman, Dave (Suzie) Nowak and Jack (Kathy) Nowak; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul G. Kinney; sons, Robert P. and Richard A. Kinney; brother, Ted Nowak, son-in-law, Harry Marquis and lifelong best friend, Violet Meek.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church 1690 West Sterns Road Temperance, MI at 1:30 p.m. Luncheon to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI.

Prayers to the family. Mrs.Kinney was my bus driver all of the 13 years going to Mason. Bus 8. In Kindergarten she would do the route then take me to the VFW where my mom worked in the kitchen serving the seniors lunch. That was when kindergarten was half days and I went in the morning. She did not have to do this, but that was her kindness. I also became her bus aide in high school. There are so many sweet memories of her. She definitely made my life so much better.

Mrs. Kinney was a very special lady and true blessing to me and my family. She was a great friend to my mom. She comforted and helped my mom with her with her needs until my mom passed. She was the best neighbor a person could ask for, me and my siblings grew up with the family and they all will always be held dear in our hearts. Praying for your comfort in this difficult season of life. Please know she will truly be missed.

Joanne was my bus driver for many years at Mason. I ran into her about 10 years ago at my wife's grandfather's funeral. It was so nice to see her and she still remembered me. I am glad she lived a long and full life!
