John “Jack” Zeiler, 86 years, of Temperance, MI passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. He was born on February 15, 1940 to the late Edmund and Opal (Wilson) Zeiler in Toledo, OH.
Jack graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958. He proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard where he was a Staff Sergeant E6, and if you didn’t know, “He was a cook in the Army.”
In 1946, Jack’s family started a fruit stand that he later developed into a thriving business, known as Zeiler’s Farm Market. He was “The King of Lewis Avenue”. It provided the first job for all of his kids, many nieces and nephews, and many friends from Bedford and Toledo.
Jack’s life was centered around charity, giving to many causes he believed in. He was the longest serving member of the Bedford Lions Club at 56 years. He also was a member of the OLMC Knights of Columbus Council #8902 and a charter member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and Regina Coeli Church. At OLMC he faithfully served for many years as a lector, altar server, usher and Eucharistic minister. He was instrumental in helping develop the cemeteries at OLMC and Bedford Memorial Gardens.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 60 years, Judith (Bates) Zeiler; children, Bill (Robin) Zeiler, Terri (Dave) McGranahan, Joan (Greg) Ferola, Becky (Kirk) Davis, Charlie (Kristen) Zeiler; 12 grandchildren, Ron Schwalm, Heather Schwalm, Brendan Zeiler, Maddie (Kama) McGranahan, Delaney (Anthony) Rightnour, Jack (Grace) McGranahan, Jason Ferola, Nick Ferola, Caroline Ferola, Ashley Davis, Charles Jr. Zeiler, Joseph Zeiler; 2 great-grandchildren, Mackenna Smith and Jaden Schwalm; siblings, Robert (Sharon) Zeiler, Sharon (Tom) Beres, Cheryl (Ed) LaVoy, and Lee Zeiler.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kerri Gedert; siblings, Margaret (Dick) Holmes, Roscoe (Mary) Zeiler, Paul (Pat) Zeiler, Richard (Diane) Zeiler, Carol (Nate) Matthews, and Mike Zeiler.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, August 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance where there will be visiting in the Narthex after 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by Lambertville VFW Post 9656. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bedford Twp. Lions Club, Knights of Columbus #8902 or Hospice of NWO.
