It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith Ann Hamburg, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and community advocate, who left us peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, February 29, 2024 in her Temperance, MI home. Born on January 12, 1937, to Edward and Helen (Olsen) Glowe, Judith’s life was a beacon of service, love, and dedication to those around her.
A proud graduate of Denby High School and a member of the Famalynes sorority, Judith’s journey in education and service began early. She continued her passion for learning and helping others at Eastern Michigan University, where she received a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. Judith’s career was marked by her unwavering commitment to education and community development, starting as a high school business teacher and retiring as the Administrator of Continuous Education from Monroe County Community College. Notably, she played a pivotal role in opening the MCCC satellite building on Lewis Ave. in Temperance, further solidifying her legacy in the field of education.
Judith was a devout member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Temperance, where she was not only a volunteer but also served as a lector and was deeply involved in the ‘keen-agers’ program. Her faith and dedication to service were evident in every aspect of her life. Additionally, Judith was an active member of the Bedford Garden Club and served on the Board of the YMCA, showcasing her commitment to community wellness and engagement.
An advocate for children, Judith’s compassion knew no bounds as she joined CASA, becoming a Guardian ad Litem, where she lent her voice to those who needed it most. Her personality was a reflection of her life’s work: always happy, smiling, the first to volunteer to help anyone in need, kind, generous, an animal lover, a good listener, and a problem solver.
Judith’s love for the arts, the outdoors, and spending quality time with ‘the girls’ on lunch and shopping dates were among her cherished moments. An avid lover of the theater, hiking, walking, biking, swimming, and tennis, she embraced life with zest and joy.
She married Glenn Hamburg on December 26, 1989 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and he preceded her in death March 7, 2010.
Judith leaves behind a legacy of love and service through her children, Nicole Wichman, John Pfeffer, Christopher Hamburg, and Michael Hamburg; her grandchildren, Mackenzie (Brooks) Hall, Brittany Vollmar, Jacob Hamburg, Hadley Horvath; and her three wonderful great-grandchildren. Her spirit and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her and were touched by her generosity and love.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the local YMCA, CASA, or Hartland Hospice in Judith Ann Hamburg’s memory, to continue her legacy of service and love for the community.
Judith’s life was a testament to the power of compassion, education, and community service. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will continue to inspire and impact generations to come.
