Kathaleen “Kathy” Elizabeth Shadix, 66 years, of Petersburg, MI passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026 while traveling in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Burrow) McReynolds, she was born November 26, 1959 in Spencer, OH. Kathy was a 1978 graduate of Bedford High School.
She loved her family and friends. Kathy enjoyed spending time crafting, scrapbooking, and especially traveling. An avid University of Michigan football fan, she also liked collecting Mickey Mouse merchandise. She loved to bake and make homemade jams. Her famous peanut butter and chocolate cookies will be missed.
Kathaleen is survived by the love of her life whom she spent the last 37 years with, Thomas Layman; children, Richard (April) Shadix, Christina (Jason) Gilbert, Anthony (Alicia) Spackey, Joshua Spackey; bonus children, Kelly (Dale) Smith, Amanda (Brian) Trease; sisters, Tina (Rick) Stansley, Tami (Jeff Wagenhauser) Miller; brothers, Todd (Kelli) Ogle, David Higley, Danny Goldsmith; grandchildren, Keegan Degner, Kassidy (Rachel) Degner, Zachary (Laura) Gilbert, Bradley (Alexis) Gilbert, Sadie Spackey, Evelyn Spackey, Emelia Spackey, Nick Heinrich, Paige Heinrich, Monica (Lance) Thompson, Victoria (Dennis) Celestino, Devon Miller, Rose Trease, Owen Trease; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Barb Ogle; her bonus dad, Thomas Ogle; her father, Joseph McReynolds; brothers, Terri and Thomas Ogle Jr.; nephews, Zachary Wagenhauser and Aaron Miller.
Private services will be held for the immediate family. A “celebration of life” will be on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Summerfield VFW Post 6509, 3977 Sylvania Petersburg Rd., Petersburg, MI, 49270.
