Lois Marie Whittaker, age 96, went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2025, at Wellbrooke of South Bend Assisted Living in South Bend, Indiana.
Born on December 8, 1928, in Whiteford, Michigan, Lois was the daughter of August and Ivadell (Hoover) Labun. She graduated from Lambertville High School in 1946. On May 1, 1948, she married the love of her life, Willis “Willie” Whittaker, with whom she shared a beautiful life and three children: Larry, Lynn, and Glenn.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lois was a woman of deep faith and unwavering love for her family. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Temperance, Michigan, where she was actively involved in Christian Mothers, rosary making, and various parish activities. She also enjoyed her time at the Bedford Senior Citizens Center. In her free time, she found joy in knitting, crocheting, crafting, and working on puzzles.
Lois is survived by her son, Lynn (Carol) Whittaker; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Whittaker; grandchildren, Amanda (CJ) Clark, Ryan (Shannen Priebe) Whittaker, Jennifer (Jordan) Darnell, Jason (Tiffany) Whittaker, Jesse (Sarah) Whittaker, Jonah (Erica) Whittaker, and Jaime (Jeremiah) Operacz; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Willie; her sons, Larry and Glenn; and her siblings, Alice Bilan, Marian Munn, Armella Kanavel, Melvin Labun, Donnetta Cousino, and Roland Labun.
The Funeral Mass celebrating Lois’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church 4605 St. Anthony Rd., Temperance, MI 48182. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
