Mary Therese (Aubry) Abel, 93 years, of Temperance, MI passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 in The Sanctuary at Turtle Crossing in Dublin, OH. The daughter of Francis “Frank” and Ruth (Desmond) Aubry she was born September 5, 1929 in Toledo, OH.
She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and St. Vincent School of Nursing.
A Registered Nurse, Mary had worked for many years at Mercy Memorial Hospital in the Pediatric Department, advancing to head nurse and a hospital night supervisor. She also started the Utilization Review Department, which was a huge undertaking. Mary was named Republican Woman of the Year in 1997. A devoted wife, and a loving, kind mother and Mimi, she was a woman of high standards. Her moral fiber ran deep and wide. Most importantly, she lived her Catholic faith every day of her life.
She is survived by her loving children, John F. Abel, Therese Abel (Patrick Vaccaro), J.R. (Janet) Abel, Tom (Karen) Abel, Charles (Sue) Abel; grandchildren, Michael (Laura) Vaccaro, Daniel Vaccaro, Thomas (Annie) Vaccaro, Alex Vaccaro and Hope Vaccaro; Joshua (Lisa) Abel, Joe Abel (Kate Bunch), Jack Abel, Jessica Wilder, and Gabriella and Allison Abel. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, John “Jack” Abel and daughter-in-law Lynne Abel; siblings Jack Aubry (Shirley), Joe Aubry , Larry Aubry, and Evelyn Pearson (Robert); her parents and In-Laws, John and Mildred Abel.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Temperance where there will be visiting in the Narthex after 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Toledo, OH.
The family extends a special thank you, to Capital City Hospice in Columbus, OH and to Martha Barr for her continued care and love. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
