Mary Rose Evans, 89 years, an angel on earth, passed away May 21, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 5, 1926 in Troy, North Carolina to John Wylie and Pauline (Lawson) Gillis, Mary was a 1943 graduate of China Grove High School in North Carolina. She was in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps from 1944 to 1946, and from there she attended Duke University. Mary married her best friend, Roger Evans on June 21, 1965. She retired in 1988 after 41 years as a network control supervisor for AT&T.
Endlessly curious, Mary could usually be found with her nose in a book and a cup of coffee in hand. She was happiest camping in northern Michigan, bird watching, playing Scrabble, taking in the fall colors, and walking along Lake Superior beaches collecting agates with Roger and her grandchildren.
Mary had a quick wit and wonderfully dry sense of humor. Humble and kind, she was a rare and beautiful soul with a generosity of spirit that made everyone feel special. Her acts of empathy and forgiveness inspired all who knew her. We will miss her dearly and remember a life so beautifully lived, a heart so deeply loved.
Mary leaves behind her loving husband, Roger; grandchildren, Aaron Dullinger, Danielle Dullinger (Kevin Cable), Carol (Damian) Brickner; great-grandchildren, Lillianna and Alexandria; daughter, Mary (Tim) Paszko; son, John Dullinger; brother, John (Mark Wilhoit) Gillis; and sister, Joyce Gillis.
A Memorial Service will be held June 7, 2015 at 5:00 p.m in Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI. where a memorial gathering will begin at 3: 00 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
The family is forever grateful to the staff at Aspen Grove Assisted Living and Promedica Hospice for the loving care they provided Mary in her final years. Mary generously supported many charities throughout her life and memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
