Mary Lou (Fruge`) Hopkins, 80 years, of Ida, MI passed away Monday, August 11,
2014 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo after a 6 1/2 year battle with lung
cancer. She was born April 5, 1934 to Orville and Catherine (Guilfoyle) Fruge`.
Mary Lou (Fruge`) Hopkins, 80 years, of Ida, MI passed away Monday, August 11,
2014 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo after a 6 1/2 year battle with lung
cancer. She was born April 5, 1934 to Orville and Catherine (Guilfoyle) Fruge`.
Mary Lou served her country proudly as a Sergeant in the U.S Army during the
Korean War. Mary Lou and the love of her life Frank Hopkins married in 1955,
being together for over 40 years. She retired from Warren Woods Public Schools
after 17 years as a secretary and later was a receptionist at the Terrarium Hair Spa
in Temperance. An avid Detroit Tigers fan, Mary Lou enjoyed her family, going to
parties, casinos, playing cards, traveling, but most of all loved having a great time.
She is survived by her loving children, Pamela (Ted) Sayle, Norine McElroy, Keith
(Diane) Hopkins, Neal (Kimberly) Hopkins, Andrew (Elizabeth) Hopkins; brothers
Greg (Marjorie) Fruge`, Mike (Kathy) Fruge` and Orville (Betty) Fruge` and many
loving Grand and Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband
Frank, her brother George, and her parents.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Hospice of NW Ohio for their
incredible care-giving skills and comfort Mary Lou received while under their care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Hospice of
NW Ohio.
Burial with military honors conducted by Lambertville VFW Post 9656 in
Roselawn Memorial Park will be private. Arrangements entrusted with Urbanski’s
Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI.
To The Hopkins Family,
It saddens me to read about Mary Lou's passing. Something that helped me when my
grandfather died was the hope found in the bible. It assures us God is near to
those that are broken at heart and those who are crushed in spirit he saves. We
read about this at Psalm 34:18. More than anything else, a relationship with
God can help you to cope with the death of someone you love. I hope you find
comfort in these words.
Very sorry to hear of Mary Lou's passing. Sympathy to all of the family. Hoping there is a BIG casino in heaven waiting for her arrival.
