Mary Rose Wimmenauer, 83 years, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Monroe, MI. She was born February 5, 1940 in Reading, PA to Doyle and Mildred (Swartz) Wimmenauer.
Mary graduated from Central Catholic High School in Toledo, OH. She went on to work as a supervisor in the welfare department in Orange County, California, for over 30 years. While in California, she enjoyed spending time with her sister, Catherine, and many nieces and nephews.
After retirement, Mary moved back to Temperance, MI and lived with her sister, Josie. Together, the two were always on an adventure! They loved traveling, going to the movies, trying new restaurants and visiting shrines and churches. Mary’s Catholic faith was integral to her life. She attended daily Mass at St Joseph Church in Erie and was devoted to the Rosary. Mary was also an avid reader and loved to crochet. She was always crocheting afghans, baby outfits, baptismal gowns and doilies to give away as gifts.
Mary was affectionately known as “Auntie” to her many nieces and nephews both in California and Michigan. As “Auntie,” she made a personal connection with all of her dear nieces and nephews. She loved to talk, play games, and share a meal or a good laugh with her family. She had a hearty laugh that lit up the room. Even when her health began to fail, she always had a smile and focused her attention on others.
Mary is survived by her sister, Catherine Sullivan of Huntington Beach, California; her nephews, Stephen (Eva) Sullivan, James (Cat) Sullivan, Peter (Susan) Hintz, David (Lynn) Hintz, Mark (Becky) Hintz and Michael Hintz; her nieces Patricia Sullivan, Jeannie (Randy) Carrier Sullivan, Susan Sullivan, Jennifer (Jon) Mauerhan, Amy (David) Wimmenauer and Samantha Wimmenauer. She is also survived by 24 great-nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews as well as a sister-in-law, Gayle Wimmenauer.
Mary is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Wimmenauer; her sister, Josephine Hintz; her nephew, Michael Sullivan; and her brother-in-laws, Peter Hintz and Jack Sullivan.
