Nancy Jane Domschot, age 87, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Hospice of Lenawee. She was born to Lawrence and Dorothy (Lane) Driver on February 12, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio. She was a 1955 graduate of Maumee High School. Nancy married Gerald L. Domschot, Sr. on August 22, 1956. They spent 56 happy years together until Jerry’s passing on December 8, 2012.
Nancy loved gardening, which began early in her life. Being raised on the family vegetable greenhouse farm meant there were always weeds to hoe and other tasks for her and her six siblings. She took great pride and satisfaction in tending to her many flower gardens and that continued throughout her life. She was very knowledgeable about flowers, and she was always eager to share that knowledge and her love of gardening with family and friends and anyone else who might be interested.
Nancy enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. When the grandkids came along, she never passed up an opportunity to have cheeseball and Kool-Aid tea parties with them.
Being outdoors was her true passion. Spending time at the rustic family cabin in Roscommon, MI, meant exploring the woods on two tracks, fishing, picking huckleberries, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, bird watching, rock hunting and lazy days on the AuSable River. And, of course, visiting with family and friends. Even at the young age of 82, she went snowmobiling on a two-day adventure, driving her own snowmobile. She was always ready for the next adventure. She just needed a minute or two to pack a bag.
Nancy’s love of travel was passed down to her from her father. She and Jerry enjoyed many extensive trips to every state in the USA. Never by airplane, they roamed mostly by taking their truck camper on roads less traveled, so they could slow down and enjoy the journey.
Nancy truly loved the simple things in life. Visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy. She enjoyed helping family and friends with anything asked of her to help others have a better life. No task was too big for Nancy, and she was always quick to lend a helping hand. She looked forward to regular gatherings with her life-long friends and loved to play pennies with them.
Nancy is survived by her children, Lee (Barbara) and Scott (Debbie), both of Ottawa Lake, Bryan (Christine) of Manitou Beach, and Sandra Shively of Ottawa Lake; grandchildren, Heather (Randy) Kersey, Karen (Michael) Porter, Angela (Michael) Madalinski, Joshua Domschot, Emily Domschot (Bryan Sierminski), Jessica (Skip) Kreft, Kylie (Tyler) Johnson, Corinne (George) Vergote, Lucas, Hunter and Sydney Shively; great grandchildren, Canon and Caleb Porter, Lillian and Evelyn Madalinski, Harper, Nolan and Weston Kreft and John and Iris Shively.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; her sisters, Barbara Brehm, Virginia Nieman, Ruth Christensen and Doris Brittson; her brothers Floyd and Jake Driver; grandson Aaron Shively.
Cremation has taken place per Nancy’s wishes. Arrangements have been entrusted to Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI. Those wishing to express a memorial for Nancy are kindly asked to consider a contribution to Hospice of Lenawee, Adrian, MI.
Although Nancy has embarked on her final journey, her adventurous spirit and zest for life will forever live on in those who knew and loved her.
