Ottum Marie “Judy” Hall, born on September 26, 1940, into the loving arms of Samuel F. and Ottum M. (Ayling) Hammond in Toledo, OH. Her loving family surrounded her as she peacefully passed away on November 30, 2025.
Ottum married Thomas Hall, Jr., the love of her life, on December 14, 1984. She devoted her life to her family, her faith, and to spreading smiles, joy, and kindness wherever she went. As the cherished Mother of six daughters, Debbie (Jerome) Sorosiak, Tracy Spychalski, Milly (Jeff) Iwanicki, Dixie Smarszcz, Eunice (Jeff) Agnew, Leslie Smarszcz, her beloved niece Jessica Myrice, and also lovingly welcomed our unofficially “adopted” sister, Carol McDaniel, who became a treasured part of Judy’s circle of love.
Ottum means ‘moving waters’ and she surely lived up to her name by pouring her heart into nurturing, guiding, and uplifting her family. Judy lived with a creativity and joy that inspired those around her. She loved taking pictures of her family, nature, and anything that caught her eye. She captured everyday beauty and turned moments into memories that we will have to cherish as we move forward. Judy loved being in nature, and camping brought much fun with family over the years. Art filled her world with color and imagination. She was wonderfully resourceful and frugal, able to make something special out of almost anything, and she passed on this spirit of creativity, gratitude, and simplicity to her children and grandchildren.
Those who knew Judy will remember her shiny brown hair she’s never dyed (HA!), bright eyes, her big smile, and her warm, unforgettable hugs. She had a playful side that made her truly one of a kind. She loved to play jokes on people and make others laugh, teasing most gently. Her sense of humor, paired with her thoughtful nature, made her someone people naturally gravitated toward. She had a gift for lifting spirits and leaving others smiling.
Her deep faith and service to Jehovah God were central to her life. She found purpose and joy in sharing her beliefs with sincerity and kindness, touching hearts through her steady devotion and compassionate example.
Judy is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Christopher (Savanna) Edwards, Phillip (Katelynn) Candella, Kyle Iwanicki, Shaley (Jason) Beggs, Faith (Dillon) Young, Trevor Ries, and Rylan Rickard; her great-grandchildren, who affectionately call her “GG” -Philippe, Kayliana, Zaine, Zarina, and Keira. Her legacy of love, humor, strength, and faith lives on through each of them.
A visitation to honor Ottum’s life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where the funeral service will take place at 4:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating her remarkable life and the warmth, laughter, and love she shared so freely. Burial will be private in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery, Sylvania, OH. Online condolences may be shared at www.bedfordfuneralchapel.com.
