Raymond Ernest Nusbaum, 91 years, of Temperance, MI passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023 in his home. A farmer for most of his life he also ran the vegetable stand on Secor Road for many years. He had previously worked as a millwright at Dana Corporation in Toledo for several years. The son of Ernest and Martha (Rochowiak) Nusbaum he was born January 29, 1932 at home in Temperance, MI.
A 1951 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Toledo he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War obtaining the rank of Sergeant.
Ray married the love of his life, Ella (McKinley) on June 19, 1954. They were together for 69 years, holding hands until his very last day.
He loved farming and gardening with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons in Reading, MI at the Lodge. He shot his buck of a lifetime while in Nebraska with his good friends, Bob Batting and Ed Riffle. He enjoyed making homemade wine and sharing it with his friends and family. Ray was an avid bowler at Forestview Lanes, coached 3B Baseball, and was a very active member of the VFW Post #9656 in Lambertville and its Honor Guard along with the American Legion Post #192.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Ella; children, Ray Jr. (Becky) Nusbaum, Theresa (Rick Gowing) Nusbaum, Betty Nusbaum (Chuck) Renfro, daughter-in-law, Shari Nusbaum all of Temperance; grandchildren, Raymond III (Jenni) Nusbaum, Patrick (Emily) Nusbaum, John Jr. (Sherrie) Nusbaum, Brady (Cassidy) Nusbaum, Krystal (Daniel) Romanowski, Keszia Biegaj, Edward II Biegaj (Carolyn), Amelia (Eric) Burkey, Andrew (Katie) Kish, Daniel (Charlotte) Kish, Paul Keane; great-grandchildren, Charles, Lydia, Avery, Henry, Ariella, Sadie, Jaiden, Juan Jr., Kherington, Keeghan, William, and Emma; siblings, Evelyn Lavoy (David) Zink, Jeannette Lubinski, Kenneth (Donna) Nusbaum; and extended family, the Keane family.
He was preceded in death by a son, John and brother, Robert (Jackie) Nusbaum.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023 in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI. . where the rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m. and VFW service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Temperance where he was a longtime parishioner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Lambertville VFW Post #9656.
