Rita was a 1955 graduate of Central Catholic High School. It was there where she met the love of her life, Richard Wehrle, whom she married September 7, 1957. Together they raised five wonderful children.
While in high school one of Rita’s earliest jobs was to deliver The Toledo Blade. She was one of the first female carriers. After graduation she worked in the accounting department of Ainsworth Shoe Company. But she will be mostly remembered as a devoted wife and mother.
Rita was a faithful 60-year member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance where she was a Eucharistic minister, special ed teacher, head of a funeral lunch committee, and a member of Women’s Body & Soul Group. She was also a long-time member of Legatus, an international organization of Catholic business leaders and spouses; and active in the Ladies Forum.
Rita enjoyed spending time at the family lake house where she was hostess of many get togethers over the years. Her children and grandchildren cherish many great memories with her. She also enjoyed traveling extensively, attending grandchildren’s activities, and nibbling on cookies.
Some of the words that can be used to describe Rita are friendly, compassionate, funny, honest, happy, hardworking, determined, thoughtful and sometimes even a bit stubborn. Those closest to Rita knew of her kindness, warmth and caring.
Rita will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years, Richard and children Sharon Turner (Steve), Jeff Wehrle, Sally Hall (Michael), Joe Wehrle (Tammy), Rachel Raglow (Dan) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
