On December 22nd, Sam Ball passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. Born in Louisville, Kentucky and raised in several southern states, he came to the Toledo area as a sales representative. After meeting and marrying the woman who was unabashedly the love of his life, he revived his interest in photography and established his own business, Photography by Sam, retiring in 2005. Sam became an active member in, and freely gave of his time serving on the boards of, local camera clubs and professional photography organizations.
Family, friends and acquaintances will remember Sam for his ready wit and generous heart, not to mention his passion for cooking and travel. Sam and his wife, Joyce Blanton, were able to enjoy many trips to Europe, especially France, as well as visits to Brazil and Asia. They shared their love of food, wine and France as members of the Alliance Française of Toledo and enjoyed opening their home to many joyful Bastille Day parties. Sam was also inducted in the local chapter of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.
He adored being Gramps to his two little granddaughters who brought him so much joy. As a man who brought so much laughter and fun wherever he went, Sam will be sorely missed by his wife, Joyce; step-sons Victor (Suzy) Blanton, Brian (Lisa) Blanton and Gary Blanton; little Phoebe and Clara; his mother, Dorothy Ball, and sister, Patricia (Richard) Randall, so many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2014 from 4 PM until 7:30 PM in Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI with a Memorial Service at 7:30 PM. Cremation has taken place.
