“Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal”. “While love leaves a memory that no one can steal”. Family and Friends, we are joined here today to not only mourn the loss of a kind-hearted soul, but to also celebrate the life of one.
Steven Robert Smith was a dedicated employee of the University of Michigan for 34 years. Steven had begun his U of M journey as a janitor and worked his way up to managerial maintenance. Steven, a beloved husband and father to a family who couldn’t possibly have asked for anyone better, passed away peacefully at his Temperance home on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 7:49 a.m. alongside his loving wife, Tamie and children. Steven was the perfect example of an ideal role model for anyone out to achieve success. Regardless of how long he may have lived for, nothing can possibly outweigh the grief and heavy hearts we are all faced with today, and for many, many more years to come. It is only with faith and a strong belief in our higher powers that the ending of this life has led him into another. A life filled without pain that may shower him with everlasting love for eternity and thereafter.
Steven is survived by his amazing wife, Tamie, who stood by his side till his very last breath; his children, Courtney (Hayden) Szymkowiak, Christine (Jimmy) Lamp, Catlyn (Greg) Williams, Careena (Jake) Healy, Caressa Stinard, and Eddie Mercer; his grandchildren, Brendan Jr., LillyAnna, Evalynn, Iris, Derek, James III, Allison, Liam, Nikolaos, Jesiah, Shaya, Kameron, Tamie, Juliette, Harmony, Tessa and Eadon.
Steven Robert Smith was born to Robert Lawrence Smith and Delores Faye Barker on April 3, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is one of 3 children who is survived by his sister, Janna (Jerry) Wyrick; his brother, Michael Smith; niece, Ashley (Paul) Harmer; nephew, Jacob Aughton; and grandnieces, Avery and Emery.
Steven was a sincerely devoted fan of the Michigan State Spartans, enjoyed working, fishing, camping, hunting, and dedicating his time to his wife and his family. Steven married the love of his life, Tamie Casto on March 25, 2006 in Clinton County of Lenawee, Michigan, after 5 years of being together, and went on to spend another 18 years of marriage without ever leaving her side. May we all take a moment to truly appreciate the love that existed between them both. Up’s and Down’s? Absolutely. Good times/Bad Times? Absolutely. However, without these, a real marriage cannot survive. The example that was set forth from the both of them, is exactly the love that some of us can only hope for. Steven will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all that had the opportunity to get to know him.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI. Cremation will follow.
