Susan Kay DeVault, age 78, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Bickford of Upper Arlington in Columbus, OH with family at her side. Born on March 21, 1946, in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of Frederick and Barbara (Vernier) Leonard.
Sue attended high school at DeVilbiss for two years before graduating from Start in 1964 and took business courses at Stautzenberger College. She held a few jobs before finding her niche at Owens Corning, starting in the clerical pool in Toledo. Over time, she advanced to the position of Executive Secretary to a Vice President, a role that led to her family’s relocation to the Columbus, OH area in 1994. She worked there until her retirement in 2001, after 25 years of service. Sue then embarked on her true passion, being a grandma and providing daycare for her two grandsons for many years.
She loved animals, decorating for the holidays, and shopping. She also loved kids and was involved in church Sunday school and programs for many years. Sue and her husband of 52 years, Danny, bought a timeshare and loved to travel the country, with many trips to Florida and her favorite trips to California, Arizona, New York, Colorado and Vegas.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Doug) Spalding; grandchildren, Carter and Duncan Spalding; brothers, Fred (Dorothy) Leonard, Donald Leonard; sister, Cathy (Rick) Wamhoff; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Danny in 2018; her daughter, Danielle; sisters, Yvonne Leonard and Virginia Foulk; and a brother, Norman Leonard.
